Beattie's Pharmacy, Customized Medicine

In many places, pharmacies dot the American city landscape almost as much as Starbucks coffee cafes.  Pharmacy centers lurk in the corners of grocery stores and shopping malls.  Some are store chains and some are pharmacies which include a variety of items sold in department stores. All stocked medication comes from pharmaceutical manufacturers specializing in mass production. Trey Beattie would have none of this.

As a registered pharmacist for over 16 years, Trey wanted to provide "a different level of service to patients in need."  In 1999, Trey opened "Beattie's Community Pharmacy" in Brighton, Colorado where he resides.  To people who knew him well and other Brighton citizens, Trey offered the service of compounding.  Compounding is the "ageless art of combining medical knowledge with technology to prepare customized medications to meet each patient's needs."  Customized medication existed long before pharmaceutical manufacturers could produce massive quantities of medicine in standardized dosages.

By preparing customized medication, Trey and his employees avoid "the one shoe fits all" approach used by the large pharmaceutical companies.  Working closely with customers and their health practioners, Trey and his employees carefully tailor medication to suit the customer in every way.  Dosages are easily adjustable.  Side effects are avoided whenever possible.  Quantities are produced in smaller amounts helping to save on costs.  Compounding medication is focused on treating a specific ailment and concerns of the patient are taken into account.  For example, pain killers often cause stomach and colon upset for chronic pain sufferers.  To avoid this unpleasant side effect, Beattie's can prescribe a topical salve or cream that fully absorbs into the skin for long lasting relief.  Also chronic pain sufferers on multiple meds only need to take a single dose.

As part of customizing, Beattie's uses natural ingredients whenever possible to avoid the sometimes the devastating results of synthetic treatments.  Menopausal women can relieve their symptoms through "bio-identical hormones", a compounded medication made from plants.  Plant chemical structures are more harmonious to mimicking a woman's diminishing hormones then therapies derived from animal hormones. Natural ingredients are also present in Anyhrous Lipoderm used to treat autism.  It is paraben free and includes pomegranate seed oil and Vitamin E.  The Lipoderm is high in healthy unsaturated fatty acids.  Beattie's features only pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies with the exception of cute and cuddly, Boyd's Bears.
